Jim McMullen is 46 years old and was born in
Chicago Illinois. He was brought into racing by
his uncle; Hall of Fame trainer P.G. Johnson who
won the 2002 Breeder's Cup Classic with Volponi.
Jim worked summers for PG, and after college at
the University of Kentucky became assistant trainer
to the legendary conditioner.
After 7 years under PG, Jim went to work as top man to Classic winning trainer Elliott Walden.
Success came quick for Jim after striking out on his own, as one of the first horses he bought Moment's Best became the
winner of the $100,000 Sportsman's Park Budweiser Breeder's Cup. Quite a feat for a horse bought for a mere 5,000 dollars!
One of Jim's proudest achievements would have to be Daisies And Nites, who won 7 out of 14 under Jim's tutelage
culminating in 3 straight stakes. In 2007,
Jim wintered at the Fair Grounds. He left his
mark by eclipsing the $200,000 Fair Grounds
Breeder's Cup Handicap with Cloudy's Knight,
and narrowly missing in the $500,000 Mervin
Muntz handicap.
2009 has been a successful year for Jim with
the highlight being - Yankee Injunuity:
Winner of the $200,000 Arlington Sprint Handicap
on July 11th. Yankee Injunuity has now earned
over $300,000 and has earned a berth in this
year's Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint to
be held at Santa Anita to be run on November
7th.
Jim currently is training in Chicago and Tampa
and is responsible for training the BRSLLC's
stable horses.
